Vincent Ekow Assafuah (born 27 September 1990) is a Ghanaian politician and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Old-Tafo Constituency in the Ashanti Region. Assafuah assumed office on 7 January 2021, following his victory in the 2020 general elections.
Before becoming an MP, Assafuah was the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ministry of Education, where he played an essential role in communication and public relations. He was also appointed as the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development in 2024 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Vincent Ekow Assafuah was born to Polykarp Assafuah and Paulina Assafuah in Kumasi, Ghana. He attended Martyrs of Uganda Junior High School before proceeding to study General Arts at St. Hubert’s Seminary in Kumasi. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Assafuah also holds a Master of Arts in Economic Policy and a Master of Science in Development Finance from the University of Ghana (UG), Legon. He obtained a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from Central University and later pursued a Master of Arts in Public Relations at the Ghana Institute of Journalism. He is currently working on a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Public Policy.
Vincent Assafuah began his career in public service and politics by contesting for the position of National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) National President, a role he held after his unsuccessful bid for the USAG presidential election. He was appointed as a special assistant to the Second Lady Samira Bawumia from 2015 to 2017. Assafuah also served as the acting Deputy Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2017, and later as the head of public relations at the Ministry of Education in 2018.
In June 2020, Assafuah contested for the Old Tafo Constituency seat and won the NPP primaries with 299 votes, securing the nomination against five other contenders. In the December 2020 parliamentary elections, he won with 42,616 votes (74.55%), defeating his closest rival Sahmudeen Mohammed Kamil of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who garnered 14,405 votes (25.20%).
Assafuah won his party’s internal election in 2024, allowing him to run for a second term in the 2024 parliamentary elections. His victory was significant, as he emphasized that those who had doubted his capacity were not familiar with his constituency.
Vincent Ekow Assafuah is a member of both the House Committee and the Education Committee in Parliament, where he actively contributes to deliberations on national issues, especially in the education sector.
He currently serves as the Ranking Member of the Youth and Sports Committee and as a Committee Member of the Economic and Development Committee in the 9th Parliament.
Vincent Ekow Assafuah is a devout Catholic and a member of the Knight & Ladies of Blessed Sacrament (Mass Server/Alter Boy). He is also a member of the Knight & Ladies of Marshall. He continues to be an advocate for public service, education, and community development. His work in Parliament and public service has earned him recognition as a young leader committed to improving the lives of the people in his constituency and across Ghana.
